Raise Money, Recycle and Benefit Your Environment
Information for Charities
You may have tried mobile phone or ink cartridge recycling. Now you can recycle jewellery to raise money. Our experience has shown us that everyone has odd earrings, broken chains, etc and that they are more than happy to see these unwanted items recycled for the benefit of a charitable cause; hence we have developed ‘Jewellery Recycling’.
How does it work for charities?
This new recycling fundraising initiative involves NO COST to yourself and little effort, yet it will enable you to receive a valuable new income stream!
IN HOUSE Collection:
We can provide you with collecting envelopes to enable you to organise an ‘in house‘ collection; all you have to do is simply distribute the collecting envelopes and once they are returned to you, give us a call and we will pick them all up from you and turn those unwanted items into cash. It couldn’t be simpler!
FREEPOST Collection:
We can also provide you with envelopes to run a ‘Freepost Appeal’ this is particularly beneficial as a newsletter insert or for those donors who find it difficult to return their unwanted jewellery to you. All they have to do is pop their jewellery into one of our freepost envelopes; and place in the post box (free of charge).
We strongly recommend you 'kick starting' this project by inserting the freepost envelope in a donor mailing/newsletter.
How should I promote this project?
You can distribute the envelopes to just about anyone! The following are just a few ideas that other charities have implemented very successfully:
- Organise a jewellery recycling week and ask staff, donors and families to support the event.
- Ask local companies, schools and/or groups to run an appeal with their members.
- Appeal in your newsletter, website, local radio and/or local paper.
What does this cost?
There is no cost to yourselves; all we ask is that you distribute any envelopes you have requested. Once we have received your unwanted jewellery we then carefully sift through the donated items and arrange for them to be recycled. You will receive a cheque for 75% of the profit from the appeal, giving a 75-25 share between you and Recycling for Good Causes.
Recycling
When you run a project with us and we have received your recycling envelopes back we carefully sift through the unwanted items and arrange for them to be recycled. We do not pay a set amount based on weight, it is based on what your donor's give hence every envelope is opened and very carefully sifted. With the careful sifting process the recycling of your jewellery can take some time hence we always say it takes us a maximum of 8 weeks before we send you the cheque.
High value items are independently looked at and sold separately, odd items are melted down and precious metals, costume jewellery and watches are sold through a varied network including: auction houses, specialist buyers, market traders, artists and shops.
Payment
Once your items have been recycled, a cheque is automatically sent to you. This means that you can receive several payments a month. We can pay you by cheque or BACS (which we highly recommend as it saves on paper/trees). When you receive payment by BACS we will send you an email a few days before to let you know the amount which is being deposited.
Reporting
You will have your own unique account number on our database which has all the information about payment, amount of envelopes received etc. Should you ever require a full update summary of this – simply email us.
Donor Details
Some of your donors may send personal information in their envelopes accompanying their unwanted jewellery; letters/notes/address/telephone numbers etc.
We never liaise with your donors (unless they request us to - in which case we would let you know) all the notes/letters etc are sent direct to you at the end of each week, so that you can deal with their correspondence.
